Now that your phone’s gallery is completely stuffed with pictures from every corner of your life , wouldn’t it be a difficult job to figure out where each one of them was taken? But if you are looking for a complete solution which not only stores the dates of pictures taken from camera but also puts essential details like geo location, camera orientation, comments and sharing capabilities in one single package GeoCam is the right app for you which can do more than your expectations in many ways.

GeoCam works on the GeoTagging principle which is a process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as photographs, video and is a form of geospatial metadata. These data usually consist of latitude and longitude coordinates, though they can also include altitude, bearing, distance, accuracy data, and place names. It is commonly used for photographs, giving geotagged photographs.

The First look

When you start the GeoCam app you will notice a basic camera app interface which gives you ability to capture pictures with default camera button or virtual button shown on the screen, from the gallery button you will be able to visit the GeoCam’s gallery where you can quickly view the pictures captured along with other details. Within the capture mode the app continuously displays the azimuth, pitch and roll of the camera which can be useful when you are in need of high quality photographs without any errors. Each time the target area is more stable the square box on the center of screen gets smaller and more focused on target for a better picture output.

How it works

GeoCam basically notes the latitude, longitude and orientation of camera with help of positioning sensor, compass and Gyroscope which gives the app an idea about the state of mobile and area being captured in the photo with direction ,angle and coverage which is displayed on Google maps locally .

While trying to use the app too near to my laptop I noticed a notification which say to move away from sources of magnetic interference. This makes sure you are away from sources which can cause errors in direction calculation with the magnetic compass. Under settings menu you can change the file prefix and extension of picture by choosing appropriate type, where you can also change other settings like author name, step size of picture and number of grids to be shown .
