WorldCard Mobile is an amazing Android application that allows you to scan your business cards and have the details of them automatically transferred in to your contacts. The app uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology to load the contents from business cards to your Android device.
The home screen of the app is pretty simple and straight forward. It consists of a camera and a photos option. The camera option allows you to take a new picture of your business card. You can also import images from your device’s gallery through the photos option. There are also Help, Exit and About tabs available on the opening screen.
Once the image is captured, you can select any language of your wish, from a choice of seven: English, Dutch, Portuguese, French, German, Italian and Spanish. There is a recognize tab available at the bottom of the screen. Tapping the Recognize button, parses the contents of the business card and puts them in to the appropriate data fields like company, name, fax, phone number etc.
I tested the app by taking a snap of my friend’s business card. The app was incredibly fast while transferring the contents. I was impressed by the accuracy of the app in recognizing the fields. Of course, there is some negligible spelling mistakes occurs in some fields. But the app provides an editor to manually edit the fields. The export option helps you store the contact information in to your device’s address book.
WorldCard Mobile saves your time of searching contacts by providing an integrated search box for your service. You can perform a quick search of your contacts in your list through the given search box. You also have options to create and organize various contact groups as per your likes.
A notable feature of the app is that the app supports batch recognition of cards. That is, multiple cards can be recognized at a time. In addition to this, you can have access to Google Maps and social networking sites like Facebook. Twitter etc with a single tap within the app. Moreover the app also recognizes email signatures.
WorldCard Mobile app has a smooth layout with excellent graphical options. The quality of recognition is truly amazing. The whole app appears to be friendly with easy steps to be followed. It requires an Android version of 2.0 and above and is available for $5.99 which seems to be pricey solution and sometimes e-mail addresses and names need to be edited for perfection.Overall WorldCard Mobile is a quite useful app for any professional who likes to get rid of those bunch of business cards on desk and the pain of manual addition.
